The famours cabinets of curiosities
In 1995, multimedia artist André Heller created the small World of Wonders for Swarovski's centenary. The centrepiece is the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in the shape of a giant. Behind it is the adventurous story of a giant that inspires not only children:
- The giant had set out to experience the world with all its treasures and wonders
- Knowing this, the giant retired in Wattens in Tirol
- Since then he has been watching over his cabinets of curiosities here.
The original principle of these cabinets of curiosities is based on the historic Chamber of Wonders in Ambras Castle - in the immediate vicinity of the Familotel Das Hopfgarten. Here, in the 16th century, the entire knowledge of the time was to be recorded as a universal collection. In the cabinets of curiosities, internationally and nationally renowned artists, designers and architects interpret crystal in very different ways. The installations in the exhibition of crystalline art show spatial and experiential concepts made of sparkling materials.
Between modern art and ancient stories, there is much to discover. The realm of the giant offers space for a whole 17 cabinets of curiosities:
- Blue Hall
- Silent Light
- Crystal Dome
- Chandelier Jungle
- Into Lattice Sun
- Ready to Love
- Ice lane
- Transparent Opacity
- Chandelier of Grief
- Studio Job Wunderkammer
- La Primadonna Assoluta
- Eden
- FAMOS
- 55 Million Crystals
- Heroes of Peace
- El Sol
- Timeless
Discover the garden & play areas
The Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens are the perfect day trip for a family holiday at Das Hopfgarten. In the giant's garden, crystal becomes a holistic experience. Let yourself be carried away by the sparkling crystal world. For example, visitors can walk along the mirror water and the little ones can climb on the play tower.
On an area of almost 8 hectares, it was created in cooperation with a wide variety of artists, designers and architectsaround André Heller the enchanting world of the giant. The highlight is the extensive park landscape with unique art installations and new buildings.
Highlights in the garden:
- Carousel
- For kids: Play tower and playground
- The Roman Excavation
- Crystal Cloud & Mirror Water
- Art in the garden
- The Foyer
The play tower - playing on multiple levels
The play tower offers a wide variety of play experiences on four levels arranged one above the other. These are connected by a vertical climbing net that is almost 14 meters high. There are a variety of activities to experience:
- Climbing
- Swings
- Swinging
- Slides
- And the feeling of floating
Everything is here. The façade of the Snøhetta-designed play tower consists of 160 crystalline facets that all look different. The discs are printed with an innovative pattern of tiny animal motifs. In addition to this, new game modules were developed together with Ravensburger Freizeit und Promotion GmbH: Sliding puzzle with the giant and the animal memory are just two of the highlights.
The Play area - Running around outside
The play tower is complemented by an extraordinary play landscape. A free-form destination made of steel and wood offers children countless opportunities to let off steam. Little ones have various opportunities to discover new game play and forms of movement.
A 25 metre-long climbing route and tricky marble runs are the highlights of the playground in the Swarovski Crystal World. The water games also guarantee lots of fun. They pay off especially in summer.
The Labyrinth
Probably one of the most beautiful sections in the spacious park landscape is the green labyrinth in the shape of a hand, which invites you to hide.
Excursion destination in summer - cooling off guaranteed
The well-known artists Tord Boontje and Alexander McQueen have created the crystal tree Silent Light in an artistic collaboration. In 2020, the sparkling work of art found a new home in the Swarovski Crystal Worlds. Especially in summer, visitors can expect a refreshing and at the same time amazing cooling down: The room temperature in the cabinets of curiosities is as low as -10° Celsius.
